Website Implementation - To Do Items

A shortlist of some of the items that our clients will be responsible for during a Website Implementation Project.

Here are a number of items we will need to address in your website implementation process.  We will work with you to check off these items during your project before your launch.

Sign up for Google Analytics – It's easy.  Just go to http://www.google.com/analytics and sign up!  Google will give you a little chunk of code to provide to your project manager so we can begin collecting high quality statistics on your website at launch. Learn More!

Provide your project manager with your registrar information for your website. ONE/Northwest needs to have this information so we can effectively troubleshoot website issues during launch and as we support the hosting of your site.

Decide if you want to include a “Powered by Clean Energy” Link.  ONE/Northwest purchases Green Tags from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to offset the energy consumed to power all of our websites.  Most traditional power generation relies on burning fossil fuel.  By replacing existing power with wind and solar, we are working to help build a greener energy portfolio for our communities. ONE/Northwest includes the link – “Powered by Clean Energy” in the footer of all of our websites.

Setup a Creative Commons license for your website content?– If your site has the need to copyright content or images on the site, you can choose to sign up for a Creative Commons license (www.creativecommons.com/license ) and give us the necessary code to insert on your site.  Learn why we encourage our groups to use creative commons.)

Email Setup changes?  - ONE/Northwest does not host email. If you are considering changing your email provider when you new site launches it is important that you think through who will be your provider and who will be supporting this service.

Privacy Policy - ONE/Northwest encourages you to write a privacy policy if you will be using our email signup functionality (Sympa / WhatCounts).

Online Donation Ready – After your site design has been implemented it is a good time to check in with your online donation provider to setup your account.  If your are using Pay Pal as provided by ONE/Northwest we will show you how to setup a simple online donation page once you have set-up your pay pal account.

Incorporate New Responsibilities into your Job Descriptions – Now that your staff has so much control over your website you will need to make sure you plan for this new found power.  We have a few job roles that outline the responsibilities we believe should be incorporated into existing staff’s job descriptions. Review Online Communications Job Responsibilities

Budget for the future by including your website in next years budget – Plone is an evolving open source project with new versions and products being created all the time. Taking advantage of these tools often requires some consulting time for customization and testing.  We recommend our groups budget 1/3 of their implementation cost per year so they can group their communications with this tool.
