Alaska Center for the Environment - July 2008

Alaska Center for the Environment is Alaska's largest home-grown citizen's group working for the sensible stewardship of Alaska's natural environment. With 7,000 dues-paying members from around the state, Alaska Center for the Environment is the voice for public lands conservation, clean air, clean water, and livable places.

Started in 1993 as a project of Oregon State University, Washington State University, and the Washington State Department of Agriculture, Food Alliance, Food Alliance creates market incentives for sustainable agricultural practices, and educates business leaders and other food system stakeholders on the benefits of sustainable agriculture.

Sightline Daily (formerly Tidepool.org) is a news and commentary website focused on the Northwest news that matters. It features a daily snapshot of the most important sustainability news affecting Cascadia, combined with expert insight that helps connect the dots on issues and point to solutions. Sightline Daily is a project of Sightline Institute, the Northwest’s sustainability think tank.

In addition to the news service, Sightline's Daily Score blog offers provocative commentary and original thinking from Sightline researchers on topics ranging from innovative transportation solutions to how to make climate policy economically fair.

Washington Conservation Voters - March 2008

Southeast Alaska Conservation Council - February 2008

Reality Check 2008 - October 2007

In spring 2008, more than 300 elected officials, business leaders, civic activists and environmentalists will gather in Seattle at an event called "Reality Check"  where small, diverse groups will collectively analyze projected household and employment growth, as well as transportation needs for the region.

MudUp is a combined effort of the Alliance For Puget Sound Shorelines, the Trust for Public Land, The Nature Conservancy and People For Puget Sound, who are all working together for the first time in a historic partnership It's a massive, multi-year conservation, restoration, and protection project with an ambitious vision of the future of Puget Sound.

Northwest Energy Coalition - May 2007

The NW Energy Coalition is an alliance of more than 100 environmental, civic, and human service organizations, progressive utilities, and businesses in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and British Columbia. Together they promote development of renewable energy and energy conservation, consumer protection, low-income energy assistance, and fish and wildlife restoration on the Columbia and Snake rivers.

The Mangrove Action Project is dedicated to reversing the degradation and loss of mangrove forest ecosystems worldwide. Its central tenet is to promote the rights of traditional and indigenous coastal peoples, including fishers and farmers, to sustainably manage their coastal environs.

Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA) - March 2007

Founded in 1989, ONDA is the only group working exclusively to protect Oregon’s high desert. Over the past 18 years, ONDA has earned many successes including the protection of Steens Mountain as the nation’s first “cow-free” Wilderness in 2000, and the removal of livestock grazing from both the Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge in 1992, and the Wild and Scenic Owyhee River in 1998.

Montana Environmental Information Center (MEIC) - December 2006

The Montana Environmental Information Center is a member-supported advocacy and public education organization. MEIC collaborates with a wide variety of state, regional and national environmental groups. MEIC also works with new voices for environmental protection, including business, farming, labor, tribal, education, religious, and public health interests.

Hoyt Arboretum - December 2006

Hoyt Arboretum, located in Portland, Oregon is a living laboratory where scientists and students can study trees and plants that would not otherwise grow in our climate and habitat. The Hoyt Collection includes more than 1,000 true species, with specimens grown from seeds collected in the wild. These plants produce seeds that can be used to replant native ecosystems that have been destroyed or are at risk.

Washington Toxics protects public health and the environment by eliminating toxic pollution. Their new website puts a beautiful, people-centered face on an extensive collection of resources, information and publications about creating a healthier world. (view site)


Oregon Wild - October 2006
Oregon Wild (formerly Oregon Natural Resources Council) works to protect Oregon's wildlands, wildlife and waters as an enduring legacy. Oregon Wild launched a new website as part of an overall organization rebranding effort. Their new site features a polished design, an extensive press room, online donations, photo galleries and more. (view site)

Alaska Transportation Priorities Project - September 2006

The Alaska Transportation Priorities Project asked ONE/Northwest to build a quick and simple website to help spread awareness about the "bridges to nowhere" construction projects proposed by the State of Alaska.

Northwest Green Campus provides general information about green energy topics, as well as to facilitate networking between Pacific Northwest Campuses. Campus organizers can login and submit content for posting on the site. Northwest Green Campus is a project of Northwest Sustainable Energy for Economic Development (NWSEED).

The Oregon Conservation Network (OCN), a coalition of over forty leading environmental organizations, helped to decide the priorities.

The Cascade Land Conservancy envisions a region that combines spectacular landscapes, a vibrant economy and great places to live. Cascade Land Conservancy fills a unique and important niche as the only private land trust that is dedicated to the four-county region of King, Kittitas, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.

21 Acres - June 2006

Formerly known as the Kaplan Farm, 21 Acres was purchased in the late 1990’s by King County Parks and Natural Resources. The land was intended to become soccer fields, but farm preservationists argued that the county’s plan would undermine state growth-management laws regarding agricultural conservation. 21 Acres is part of King County’s farmland preservation project. The vision is to create a welcoming space for community and shoppers to rediscover our agricultural heritage.

Markets Initiative - June 2006

Markets Initiative works with Canadian companies to conserve ancient and endangered forests by shifting their demand, and supply, of paper products to environmentally sound options. There is a wealth of information on specific paper products, producers, publishers, and industries. The website also serves as a portal to Ancient Forest Friendly and Eco Initiatives.

Pollution in People - May 2006

The Pollution in People study is a project of the Toxic-Free Legacy Coalition, a diverse state-wide coalition of more than 50 organizations. In 2005, ten Washington residents agreed to testing for the presence of toxic chemicals. The Coalition wanted to know which chemicals were getting into our bodies, and at what levels, to better understand the potential harm posed by poor regulation of chemicals, and to develop better solutions. The results of the study are hosted on the Pollution in People website.

The Bullitt Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation providing funding to nonprofit organizations working to protect, restore, and maintain the natural physical environment of the Pacific Northwest. The Foundation's geographic focus is Washington, Oregon, Idaho, western Montana (including the Rocky Mountain range), coastal Alaska from Cook Inlet to the Canadian border, and British Columbia.

Land Trust GIS is a joint project of GreenInfo Network in partnership with the Land Trust Alliance, and with the assistance of CommEn Space. Begun in 2004, the project emerged out of extensive involvement in land trusts and their use of GIS by all of the sponsor organizations.

ONE/Northwest is a not-for-profit consulting firm that helps environmental groups apply new strategies and technologies for engaging the public and more effectively collaborating with one another. After creating dozens of great websites for environmental organizations throughout our region, we decided it was time to give our own site a much-needed makeover.

The Mountains to Sound Greenway provides natural areas and breathing room for a growing population. Open space conservation on this scale is an award-winning answer to the challenge of balancing human development with a healthy natural environment. The Greenway Trust acts as a convener and catalyst of interest groups, landowners and public and private stakeholders along the I-90 corridor between Seattle and Central Washington State.

Sightline Institute - April 2006

Sightline (Formerly Northwest Environment Watch), is a not-for-profit research and communication center -- a think tank -- based in Seattle. Founded in 1993, Sightline's mission is to bring about sustainability -- a healthy, lasting prosperity grounded in place. One/Northwest produced a highly customized website that offers premium content to logged-users and is able to track changes to member profiles.

Since 1989 Conservation Northwest has worked to connect wildlands from the Washington Coast to the BC Rockies for the benefit of wildlife and people. Twenty-three staff, spread out in four different offices around the state, combine outreach, communication, and science skills with passion and innovation to help "keep the Northwest wild".

Elwha Science Education Project - February 2006
The Elwha River watershed is the largest in Olympic National Park, and historically the largest producer of salmon and steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula. Two dams were erected on the river early in the last century, disrupting the natural ecosystem and the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe’s way of life. After lengthy legal and political proceedings, the dams are scheduled for removal in 2009. The project will be the largest dam removal in our country's history, and creates a unique educational opportunity. Olympic Park Institute (OPI) is seizing this opportunity through its Elwha Science Education Project.

The resulting Partnership has a goal of improving quality of life in Seattle by restoring and maintaining 2,500 acres of forested parklands by 2025. It will be the largest urban reforestation effort in the nation.
