Can Facebook and LinkedIn save the world?
Online Social Networks – Is it possible to use Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networks to bring about social change? We think so. Come hang out with us on November 15th from 5:30-7:30 PM at the ONE/Northwest office to share your ideas and hear from other smart, passionate people in the community.
Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Tribe.net, Care2, Ning, Tagged, Xing, Friendster… the list of online social networks goes on and on. Which networks are you plugged into? How do you interact with those networks, and what value do they provide you as a member? What are the possibilities for mobilizing online communities to pursue social change? What are the opportunities to educate? Organize? Fundraise? Build offline community? Can folks on Facebook help stop global warming? Will Care2 members make a difference for endangered species? Can a shout out to your LinkedIn contacts deliver specialized volunteer services or expertise for an initiative campaign?
These are questions we’ve been pondering at ONE/Northwest and we’d like to invite you to a join us in a conversation about online social networks, trends in the business and non-profit arenas related to those networks, and examples of what’s currently possible.
Come share your thoughts with other smart people who are changing the world. We’ll have pizza and beer to fuel the discussion, a handful of speakers with specific examples, and an informal conversation on the possibilities that online social networks present.
